John Fekkes is an air traffic management systems (ATMS) and technical operations professional who will bring to bear his over four decades worth of experience in the aviation industry, initially with the Canadian Ministry of Transport and then with NAV CANADA from its inception till his retirement in 2017 as the Vice President, Business Development NAVCANatm. With NAV CANADA, John gained international experience successfully fulfilling the requirements of leading air navigation services providers (ANSP) in western Europe, Australia, the Middle East and the Far East.

Following a varied and successful career as a highly engaged business professional with NAV CANADA, John Fekkes is leveraging his deep experience in CNS/ATM systems, business development, and client services to support the business objectives of both ATC and airport system suppliers, and Air Navigation Service Providers.

John has a strong record of success in managing and advancing communication navigation surveillance / air traffic management (CNS/ATM) technology solutions worldwide; in working closely with specialists across the procurement, development, delivery and support cycle, and in building excellent and extensive global relationships.

John is motivated to support the growth and success of aviation/CNS/ATM businesses and ANSPs by offering services to pursue new business and operational opportunities; build and manage partnerships; develop and support strategic positioning; and manage client and vendor relationships.

Summary of experience:

As Vice President, Business Development – NAVCANatm, John initiated and advanced NAVCANatm technology sales to partners and customers in the United Kingdom, Denmark, United Arab Emirates, Curaçao, Australia, Luxembourg, Hong Kong, China and Italy, working closely with Engineering, Air Traffic Control Operations, Technical Operations, Contracting, Legal and Communications.

As a senior manager within the Engineering division, John managed the development and support of the Oceanic Control Flight Data Processor & CPDLC / waypoint reporting. He also participated actively in the development and implementation of the integrated Air Traffic Management Tower Systems.  As the leader in Business Development, he continued to promote the Integrate Tower Solutions by refining the product roadmap and initiating partnerships within the aviation industry with the objective of integrating various CNS/ATM solutions and services.

John began his career in the Ontario Region working in both Engineering and Technical Operations. One of his early roles in Engineering was the regional manager of the national $800 M Radar Modernization Program (RAMP).  As Manager, Technical Operations (Toronto), he reorganized the maintenance specialty areas into CNS and ATM groups, which later became the national structure. He also implemented the Computerized Maintenance Management System which was adopted as the national MAXIMO NAV CANADA Technical Operations and Engineering.

Additional experience:

In addition to career activities, John has also focused on being physically active and creative. His long-term experience in photography began in high school where he started as the Year Book photographer. With an interest in being creative, he has been active in wood working with a focus on artistic carving. Regarding his goals to be active with good energy, John maintains his energy with physical activities, such as hiking, running and cycling. The cycling experience included cycling with a group from Vancouver to Winnipeg and Chicago to New York city.
